Instant Pot Green Beans Recipe (1)

After trying these Instant Pot Green Beans, I can honestly say I don’t think I’ll ever make green beans another way again.

In just 15 minutes in your pressure cooker, you have perfectly crisp-tender green beans that make the perfect addition to any meal.

We love them tossed with butter, salt, and freshly grated black pepper, but you can season them to your liking.

Place 1 cup water in the Instant Pot, then place the steamer rack in the Instant Pot (this one was included with the Instant Pot I bought). You could also use a steamer basket if you have one.

Cook on MANUAL, LOW PRESSURE for 0-2 minutes, depending how soft you like your green beans. For firmer green beans cook for 0, for softer green beans cook for 2. (We usually cook ours for 1 minute).

We don’t recommend using high pressure to cook them because even cooking them for 0 minutes, the beans turn out a lot softer than we like.

QUICK RELEASE once the time has expired. If setting your time to zero, I promise your green beans will still cook – they steam as the Instant Pot comes to pressure.

Open the lid carefully, then remove green beans from the instant pot and toss with melted butter and season with salt and pepper. Serve warm.

Can I use frozen green beans?

Yes! We still think fresh green beans taste best, but because frozen green beans are usually partially cooked, you probably won’t need to change the time at all.

Other variations

We love these green beans seasoned with just butter and salt and pepper, but there are other ways to season them, too.

  • Toss with olive oil and grated Parmesan cheese
  • Squeezed with fresh lemon juice and zest
  • Minced garlic or garlic salt
  • Tossed with brown sugar and bacon (like this recipe)
  • Served with candied pecans
  • Stir-fry them with garlic and ginger once cooked for a crispy, Asian-style side dish
